Blood Type Calculator
The Blood Type Calculator estimates the possible blood types of a child based on the blood types of both parents. This tool helps expectant parents and students understand genetic inheritance probabilities quickly. Whether you are planning a family or studying biology, this calculator predicts potential outcomes using established science. It takes the guesswork out of what traits your baby might inherit.
How Potential Child Blood Types Are Calculated
This calculation predicts the ABO blood group a baby might inherit by analyzing parental genetics. It uses Mendelian genetics to identify which alleles (gene versions) each parent can pass down.
Blood Type Inheritance = Mendelian Genetics
Where:
- Type A = Can pass A or O alleles
- Type B = Can pass B or O alleles
- Type AB = Can pass A or B alleles
- Type O = Can only pass O alleles
We determine the blood type by matching one allele from each parent. If a dominant A or B allele is present, that blood type appears. Only if two O alleles combine does the child have Type O blood. This method accurately predicts all biological possibilities.
What Your Potential Child Blood Types Mean
The results show which blood types are genetically possible for your future children and the likelihood of each. This probability helps you understand the variety of outcomes based on your specific genetics.
Family Planning
If both parents are Type O, the result will be 100% Type O with no other possibilities. This provides certainty for parents with this specific combination.
Genetic Diversity
An A parent and a B parent can potentially have children with A, B, AB, or O blood. This creates the widest range of possibilities for a child.
Exclusions
An AB parent cannot pass on an O gene, so they cannot have a Type O child with another AB parent. Understanding these limits helps verify biological relationships.
Important
This calculator only covers ABO types and does not predict the Rh positive or negative factor.

Use these insights to satisfy your curiosity or prepare for medical needs, but always confirm blood types through medical testing after birth.
